Most tech gets commodity trading and maritime wrong

Tradavex is an advisory firm, helping clients align commodity technology with commercial outcomes.

We advise leaders on what to build, adapt, buy, partner or drop - and why.

The problem

Too much technology in commodity trading and maritime is built on assumptions that don’t match reality. Tech becomes detached from profit-drivers.

Tradavex works with leaders who recognise this gap.

We show where assumptions break down - how deals, voyages and decisions actually happen.

Then we help align strategy with the workflows that create value.

In seaborne trade, technology should do one of three things: make money, save it or create edge.

What we do

Tradavex provides commercial clarity for technology decisions.

We advise senior teams on:

  • Domain fit audits: See where your tech fits the commercial chain — and where it doesn’t.

  • Workflow mapping: Turn revenue logic into clear, buildable flows.

  • Adoption & go-to-market: Speak the industry’s language to win trust and usage.

  • Ongoing advisory: Expert input for product and growth decisions.

about tradavex

Tradavex was founded by Jack Nugent, a former trader and charterer with global experience across East and West of Suez.

He has traded physical cargoes, chartered vessels under voyage, time and COA contracts, and managed futures exposure on ICE and CME.

After co-founding a trading company, Jack saw how easily technology drifts from the realities of commodity trading and shipping — and how much stronger it can be when shaped by commercial insight.

That understanding defines Tradavex’s work today: bridging the gap between industry and technology with real-world experience.
